LIV boss Greg Norman not invited to festivities for 150th Open Championship

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland — The R&A announced Saturday that it hasnt invited two-time Open Championship winner and LIV Golf CEO Greg NormanNext week, the event will be celebrated at St. Andrews as its 150th anniversary.

Those celebratory events include the Champions Dinner and the R&A Celebration of Champions competition.

Norman, who won The Open At Turnberry in 1986, and at Royal St. Georges 1993, is one 14 multiple winners in the post-war era.

We can confirm that we contacted Greg Norman to advise him that we decided not to invite him to attend on this occasion, the R&A said in a statement. The 150th Open is a significant milestone in golf and we want the emphasis to remain on the Championship and its history. We are not convinced that Greg would be able to attend.

The R&A said it hoped that Norman would be able to attend again in the future when circumstances allow.

Norman declined to comment via an LIV Golf spokesperson on Saturday.

Norman, 67 has landed several top players from PGA Tour and DP World Tour to play in the new LIV Golf Invitational Series. The series is being funded by Saudi Arabias Public Investment Fund.

Former major champions are some of the LIV Golf players. Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks KoepkaAnd Sergio Garcia.

In May, the R&A denied a request from Norman for a special exemption to play in the 150th Open Championship. He competed in the event last year. The Open Championship offers exemptions for champions who are 60 years or older or those who have won in 10 years.

Defending champion Collin Morikawa, three-time Open champion Tiger WoodsAnd Rory McIlroy are among the former champions who will participate in The R&A Celebration of Champions. They will compete on Monday on four holes of the Old Course.
