NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. — Max McGreevyOn Saturday, he finished a 9 under 63 to share the second-round lead. He also had a one stroke advantage when darkness stopped third round play in the PGA Tour’s Barbasol Championship.
The third round was started by a large portion of the field in sunny conditions, after heavy rains hit Keene Trace the second consecutive day. Rainfall of more than 2 1/2 inches over two hours delayed play for almost 5 1/2 hours. Bare-footed grounds crew used buckets and buckets to drain water from bunkers.
McGreevy and Matti SchmidEach shot 63, and each were at 16-under 128 following the second round. This was a stroke ahead of the first-round leader, who was a former University of Louisville player Adam Svensson.
They were the last to tee-off and completed three holes. McGreevy opened the round with a birdie. Svensson birdied Svenssons par-3 second hole, and Schmid was even after a second-hole bogey.
Ricardo GouveiaFor a total of 15-under 129, he carded a 7 under 65 in the second round. He was even through three holes.
Sean OHair, Kevin StreelmanAnd Trey MullinaxThey were both at 14 under, with OHair finishing four holes and Streelman finishing fourth.
McGreevys second round, which McGreevy completed on Saturday morning, featured 10 birdies. These included four over a 5-hole stretch on the front to outshadow the Americans one bogey at the par-4 seventh hole. Schmids round, which was bogey-free, included nine birdies. This included three on Keene Trace’s four par-5 holes.
McGreevy stated earlier in the day that I don’t know if 10 birdies were put together in a tournament in the last couple weeks so to put it all together in one round, regardless of how easy the course was playing, felt really good. Golf swing is good, putter is good. I just kind of gave myself looks, and just continued to go in the hole.
Only a few golfers were allowed to tee off shortly after the second round was over. Play was also halted Friday due to darkness. Fog and thunderstorms caused delays of nearly 5 1/2 hours.
