Wenyi Ding wins U.S. Junior Amateur; first Chinese male winner in USGA history

BANDON, Ore. – Wenyi Ding became U.S.s first male Chinese winner. Golf Association history Saturday was made when Caleb Surratt beat Wenyi Ding 3 and 2 in the U.S. Junior Amateur final at Bandon Dunes.

Ding, 17 years old, was 8-up with eight to play in the 36 hole match. He lost five straight and then halved 34th to end the 18-year-old Surratt.

Ding is set to attend Arizona State University in 2023.

Surratt, which is bound for Tennessee, is from Indian Trail (North Carolina).
