MUIRFIELD in Scotland — Borrowing clothes doesnt bother anyone Jessica KordaAt the Womens Open

While she waited for her suitcase to arrive in Muirfield on Thursday, Korda shot a 5-under-66 in the first round, just one shot behind Japans Hinako Shibuno.

Korda managed to make four birdies and an Eagle on the 17th, despite having to wear her normal clothes after her luggage was lost at an airport in Switzerland.

Korda stated, If anyone knows of anyone at Zurich airport who would like to place my suitcase on the only flight a day that they have going into Edinburgh, Id be deeply grateful, I know where its at, I have an AirTag. I cant get anyone going to get it. Megan Khangs pants were my Monday outfit. Tuesday, I wore my sister’s pants, and Wednesday, Alison Lees trousers. Today Im wearing FootJoy pants.

Shibuno, 2019, champion, made birdies at the first three holes. She went on to card eight total in her 65. Two shots behind, Mexicos Gabby López and Louise Duncan from Scotland tied for third.

Its been a while since Ive played this well. Especially putting. Shibuno stated through an interpreter that it was quite frightening. I haven’t changed much. My caddie said that my body balance was off when i was missing putts. This helped me play better.

Nelly KordaAfter shooting a 70, Jessicas sister was tied for 13th.

Catriona Matthew is a former Womens British Open Champion and two-time Solheim Cup winner captain.

Muirfield had banned women from entering the clubhouse six years ago.

Matthew struggled to a 5-over score of 76, making double bogeys on both the first and second holes, and failing to make even one birdie.

Matthew stated, Being the first women’s pro event to take place here, its great and me being local it was a huge honour to hit the first Tee shot. Apart from two doubles, it was a good game. It can be frustrating.
