Hideki Matsuyama withdraws from FedEx St. Jude Championship with neck injury

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Hideki YamayamaWithdrew the FedEx St. Jude ChampionshipA neck injury prevented the completion of the FedEx Cup Playoffs first leg on Wednesday.

Matsuyama, who currently ranks 11th in FedEx Cup points standingss, is well-positioned to advance to next weekss. BMW Championship(Top 70) at Wilmington Country Club in Delaware, and the season-ending Tour Championship(Top 30 players) at East Lake Golf Club, Atlanta.

Matsuyama stated Wednesday that he was very disappointed to have had to withdraw from the FedEx St. Jude Championship. However, he felt it was the best decision for his neck to receive the necessary treatment to allow him to compete in both the BMW Championship and Tour Championship.

Matsuyama, 2021 Masters champion, pulled out of this tournament for the fourth time. He also withdrew from The Players, Valero Texas Open, and 3M Open. He was disqualified in the Memorial round for using an illegal substance to his 3-wood.

Matsuyama (30) has won twice this season on tour, at the Zozo Champion and Sony Open in Hawaii.
