Jon Rahm wins third Spanish Open title in perfect week

It took him a year longer than he had hoped, but it was worth it. Jon RahmHe is now a three time Spanish Open winner, matching the feat of his hero. Seve Ballesteros.

After Rahm failed to match the three Spanish titles, frustration and disappointment arose.

Rahm stated, It might not be my strongest field all year, but sometimes these are the most difficult to win. Im supposed win, everyone is betting on me winning, and to come out to play a Sunday like I just did, it is hard to describe.

Australian Min Woo Lee(68), who was in Rahm’s final group, challenged Rahm throughout the week, couldn’t keep up and finished third on Sunday.

Rahm played his best of the week, and it was never a contest.

He made eight birdies and one bogey. After the 14th hole, his lead was five. He almost made an albatross on the par-5 hole. His ball hit the flag too hard and went past the hole.

After his May victory at the Mexico Open, Rahm won this second time in the year. It was Rahms eighth European tour win.

Ballesteros won his last 50 European tour titles at this tournament, in 1995. Rahm won the Spanish Open title in 2018 and 2019. He finished 17th last year, in a tie, after being the top-ranked player after his U.S. Open victory.

Rahm said that he arrived feeling less stressed this time around, but that he felt just as emotional with the victory.

He stated, Going up 18th hole I knew exactly what was about to occur and to get that done like that, its hard to describe it.

Edoardo MolinariAfter a 4-under-67, which left him at 16 under for this tournament, he tied for fourth place. Tommy FleetwoodAfter closing with a 1-under 70, Rahm was the only other top-30 player.

Local activists had previously dropped cement in some holes to protest mismanagement of water on golf courses before the tournament began in Madrid. Organisers claim they use water sustainably.

The organizers stated that play was not affected by the cemented holes being not used on the tournaments courses.
