MALELANE, South Africa — Ockie StrydomHe won his first DP World Tour title on Sunday with a 2-shot win at the Alfred Dunhill Championship, South Africa.
Strydom made four birdies in the first five holes to take the lead. He finished at Leopard Creek Country club with a 3-under-par 69, which is 18 under par overall.
Its good. Strydom stated that it was his favorite place. Im just happy.
Spains 37 year-old South African topped the list. Adrian Otaegui(-16), who finished with a 68. Englands Laurie CanterAfter a fantastic final-round 64, (-15) was third.
Former Open champion Louis Oosthuizen(68) tied for seventh at 13 Under.
Strydom took a share in the lead overnight, but Strydom was unable to stop the roller-coaster four hole from No. 6 to No. 9 were he birdie bogey birdie, birdie and double-bogey.
Double-bogey on No. 9 threatened to end his challenge, after he found water with his second shot. He recovered well and collected back-to-back birdies with Nos. 10 and 11.
He also took shots at Nos. 13 and 14, and made pars all of the way home.
Strydoms breakthrough win came after Strydom equaled the course record with an 63 in round three at Leopard Creek. Scotlands Scott JamiesonHad set the record just one day earlier.
Strydom set an all-time course record of 63 at the South African Open at Blair Atholl Golf and Equestrian Estate. He was tied for 15th.
