15 Insanely Fun Golf Drinking Games For You & Your Friends

Golfing and alcohol are like peanut butter and jelly.

While the game of golf must be respected at all times, there’s nothing wrong with having a few drinks on the course with your friends. Golfers often find that they have lower scores and more fun after drinking a few of their favorite adult beverages.

You aren’t sure what kind of drinking game to play with friends? We can help you! Here are 15 hilarious drinking games you can play with your friends next time you hit the links.

1. Your Beer Stays In Your Hand

Here’s a fun game that is easy to play, with only one rule! Every golfer must carry a beer on the course. The rule doesn’t apply when the golfer is hitting a shot.

A golfer who is caught with a beer in their hands will be punished by having to drink the entire beer. You can modify this rule to make it three seconds. You don’t want to be completely ruined after just a few holes.

2. Take a shot of liquor for every Mulligan

Let’s face it, we all need to take a few mulligans on the course from time to time. This drinking game will add some spice and laughter to the experience. A group of golfers must take a shot or down a beer if they decide to take a mulligan.

3. Beer Bogey

Beer bogey is one of the most popular drinking games on the golf course, and it’s been around for quite a while. We’ll show you how it works.

After each hole, each golfer adds up their score. For every stroke above par, you must take a shot, gulp, or sip.

To clarify, a bogey is one drink and a double-bogey is two! If your group is filled with lots of high handicappers, it’s probably best to go with sips instead of shots or gulps! The quadruple Bogeys will quickly turn everyone in the group into a puddle.

4. Sand Trap Drinking Game

This one is simple, but it’ll add some enjoyment to those dreaded bunker shots. Every time your golf ball touches a bunker, you must either take a shot or sip. If it takes you three attempts to escape a bunker, you must drink three drinks.

5. The Pin is closest to you

Here’s a great golf drinking game for all of the par 3 holes on the course. Determine which golfer is closest to the pin by comparing their tee shots. Every other player in the group must take a shot.

You can also choose to play a different version on par 3 holes. Every golfer that doesn’t wind up on the green with their tee shot has to take a drink. That’ll make folks want to dial in their iron game a little more.

6. Water Hazard Drinking Game

This one is the same as the sandtrap drinking game, except for water hazards. Each time a golfer ends up in the water, they must take a drink. The drink will at least help to ease the pain of losing another golf ball.

7. The Birdie Game

Each time a group member makes a birdie the rest of the group must have a drink. If you happen to be the best golfer in your group, it’ll be fun watching your buddies get a little woozy!

If you are in a group of skilled golfers, you might consider switching to the Eagle Game. In this case, all other golfers would need to drink when someone makes an Eagle Game.

8. Fairway Drinking Game

Here’s another golf drinking game that is simple and fun to play with larger groups. After every golfer hits their tee shot, the ones who didn’t end up in the fairway have to take a drink.

This game forces everyone to focus on hitting the ball straighter than driving farther. It’ll also increase the number of drinks for each person because even the best golfers sometimes miss the fairway.

9. Even and Odd

This drinking game is not related to the scorecard. Players randomly choose an even or odd number before they start a round. After that, every golfer will take a shot on every hole and drink a beer.

Keep in mind that this game works best with shot glasses, so keep a few in your bag in case other players don’t bring their own. If a player drinks beer rather than liquor, they must finish the beer before the hole is over. They must finish their beer before they can drink the next hole.

 10. Reduce your score

Here’s a creative way to make your golf game more interesting. This drinking game allows each member of the group to subtract one stroke for each drink they consume. The ball becomes harder to hit after several drinks.

11. Highest Score Drinks

This drinking game is easy to learn and fun to play. The hole ends with the highest scorer taking a shot. If there are a few players in the group who are already buzzed after nine holes you can change the rules so that the player with the lowest score on each hole must take a shot.

12. Hole-In-One

Hole-in-ones don’t happen often, but they must be celebrated when they do. Every golfer in the group must take a shot or shotgun a drink if someone scores an ace. A picture of the golfer holding the flag stick is also a good idea, as a hole in one is a huge achievement.

13. The Chip-In Game

It’s an incredible feeling to get a chip shot into the hole by knocking it in from the fringe, fairway or rough. The drinking game requires that each player chip in, and the rest of the group must take a drink. This could give golfers an extra incentive to improve their chip shots.

14. Tee Box Drinking Game

Here’s another fun one! Every golfer in the group should play from the tips (the closest tee box to the hole). Anyone who wishes to play from a closer tee box must finish a drink before they can tee off.

Each additional drink is added for each set of tees that are closer together. Want to tee off from the ladies’ tees on that long par 5 hole? You’ll need to finish three beers or shots before doing so.

15. Loser Pays

Here’s another fun game that works well on par 3 holes. Determine who is the furthest from the pin after each golfer has hit their shot. The person who is closest to the pin must buy the next round. This drinking game can be played on any hole, but it’s easiest on par 3s because it’s simple to see who is farthest away.
