Callaway Solano TRX Review

Table of Contents

If you’re like most golfers you probably think of Callaway as a top brand for drivers, not shoes.

We love the Callaway Rogue ST Max and the Paradym and are very excited about the Paradym. However, they also make great shoes and apparel. In a world where some golf shoes can get pretty expensive, it’s nice to see a pair that is affordable for most golfers.

They still look great, are super comfy, and come in multiple colors. Here’s our review of one of the latest models from Callaway.

Callaway Golf Solana TRX Golf Shoes

As someone who’s a big fan of Callaway equipment I figured I’d try the shoes too. I was drawn to them by their solid price and good design. I had a previous pair in 2021 and loved them so I figured let’s give the newest ones a shot.

These are the Key Takeaways

  • Callaway golf shoes are durable and last a long time.
  • Callaway golf shoes are very comfortable and true to size.
  • They offer both spiked and spikeless golf shoes.

Simple and Clean Design

The simplicity of the design caught my eye in the golf store – I loved how much of a classic look these shoes had. They’re not saddle shoes but they’re also not street-style casual shoes either. These shoes are made from 100% leather and have a synthetic rubber sole.

Three Color Options

These are huge perks Callaway Golf Solana TRX shoes you can choose from three different colors.

  • All whiteThese shoes are great for summer because they have 80% white soles with gray hints. They can be matched with any outfit.
  • All blackThe all-black shoe is a great option in winter when there are wet and rainy conditions.
  • Gray: Finally, they’re available in gray with hints of black to match tons of different color schemes to look good on the course.

All the color options look great and aren’t over the top like some golf shoes. While you might not make a bold fashion statement with these shoes, they’re simple, clean, and match just about anything.

Callaway

Form fitting (Very Comfortable).

Golfers care more about comfort than looks and colors. There’s nothing worse than worrying about your feet mid-round instead of your swing and score.

I was a Callaway golf shoe owner for many years and knew that these shoes would be just as comfortable. And I wasn’t wrong – these are some of the most comfortable golf shoes out there even if you walk vs. ride in a golf cart.

They have a forged DX midsole for a “normal ground feel” and provide all comfort. They also include 5 mm of PLUS foam in their insoles for extra comfort.

Not to mention, they’re very breathable as well. Whether you’re walking or riding, these shoes won’t let you down!

Maximum Control

Aside from being very comfortable and great looking, they’re also likely going to help your swing too. These shoes are not like many golf shoes that use soft spikes. Instead, five spikes are strategically placed to aid your swing. You definitely won’t have to worry about slipping with these shoes!

Callaway

Waterproof

Despite the moderate price, I was impressed to find that these shoes are waterproof. Callaway used Opti Dri waterproof leather microfiber leather to combat bad weather. The mesh lining also helps.

These shoes can be worn even if it rains. We recommend the all-black color for winter golf. They come with a two-year warranty.

Alternatives Callaway Shoes

These shoes are affordable and will suit almost any golfer. But there are two downsides; they don’t offer different width sizes and there are only five spikes (with additional traction).

Some golfers need larger width sizes, while others might want 6–8 spikes. You can also opt for a spikeless system and no spikes. These are some alternatives from Callaway that may work better for you.

Callaway Golf Coronado V2 Golf Shoes

If you’re looking for a little more style in your shoes, I think you’ll love the Coronado V2 model. These golf shoes are slightly more expensive than the Solana, but they have nice upgrades.

Here’s how they differ:

  • Available in wide and medium options.
  • For extra comfort, opt for a 7 mm molded PUR insole.
  • The CounterLok heel stabilizer adds additional support to your swing.
  • Five colors versus three (including a USA-themed great looking red/white/blue).
  • 9 Spike TPU Fusion Lite sole for extra stability and control throughout your swing (great in all weather conditions).

While they’re more expensive than the Solana, they’re worth every penny. These are great for golfers who want extra stability and comfort.

Callaway Golf Del Mar Sunset Shoes

The Callaway Golf Del Mar Sunset shoes are another option. These shoes are more casual and loafer-like than traditional golf shoes.

Callaway

Here’s how they differ from the Solana TRX shoes:

  • Extra-thick insole for maximum comfort
  • Only two color options are available (white and gray/blue).
  • The casual design is preferred by some types of golfers.

Unfortunately, the Sunset pair also don’t have any other width options. They do come with the same 2-year waterproof warranty.

FAQs about golf shoes

Do you have questions about choosing the right golf shoes for your feet? Continue reading to find out the most frequently asked questions and answers.

Are there any pros who wear spikeless golf shoes on the course?

Yes, there are professional golfers who wear spikeless shoes. In the past, almost all pros used steel spikes but eventually switched to soft spikes. However, a small percentage of PGA Tour and LIV golfers now wear completely spikeless shoes.

They might choose to wear spikes in bad weather or under difficult conditions. Soft spikes offer more stability and support, especially in winter when the conditions are slippery or wet.

Are Callaway golf shoes wide?

Some models offer more than a medium-width option. The Solana TRX shoes only come in medium width at the moment. If you need a wider option you’ll need to buy the Coronado model mentioned above.

Do Callaway golf shoes run true to size?

Yes, Callaway golf shoes run true to size. I’m a size 10 or 10.5 in nearly every brand of shoes (from athletic shoes to more formal dress shoes) and these are perfect. Callaway golf shoes have a great width in the standard version. However, they also offer other widths in certain models.

Should you buy golf shoes that are half the size?

No, in golf it’s best to buy shoes that fit your feet correctly.

For example, when buying running shoes it’s a good idea to buy them a half size bigger to allow room for your feet to move. This will ensure that you dont get blisters or any other issues with your toenails while running.

You want shoes that fit better for golf. While you don’t want them snug, you also don’t want them so loose that your feet move around too much. Since your lower body plays a pivotal role in the golf swing it’s vital to buy shoes that are perfect for your feet.

Review

Is it better to have your golf shoes tight or loose?

If you’re walking vs. riding in a cart I’d say that shoes that are slightly looser are a better option. Similar to the running example above, this will allow your feet to breathe more as you play the five to six miles of golf.

But in reality, you don’t want shoes that are too tight or too loose. Otherwise, you might get a golf blister if they’re too big or toenail issues if they’re too small.

They can also affect your ability to swing the club consistently. Don’t make golf even more difficult by wearing the incorrect shoe size!

Callaway

My Thoughts

  • These shoes are ideal for walking 18 (or greater) holes, or just for practice.
  • They last a long time – my previous pair lasted more than a year with regular use.
  • Callaway golf shoes have a classic look and simple colors that can be matched with any outfit.

Final Thoughts about Callaway Golf Shoes

Golf shoes aren’t something a lot of players think about often but play a big role in the golf swing. If your feet are uncomfortable or are moving around in your shoes, it’s going to be hard to have enough lower body action in the swing. This is why it’s so important to try on different shoes and find the right style/size for your feet.

Overall, the Callaway Golf Solana TX Golf shoes are well-made and sporty. The only downside is that they don’t offer them in multiple-width sizes. Otherwise, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with this shoe, and think it’ll help your feet stay comfortable the entire round.
