Blue Bay LPGA event canceled for third time in four years

DAYTONA BEACH (Fla.) — The Blue Bay LPGA was canceled Tuesday night due to ongoing COVID-19 issues, the association stated in a brief statement from its headquarters.

China Golf Association, which regulates the game of golf in China, made the decision. According to the tour it was looking forward returning to Hainan Island 2024.

The Blue Bay LPGA was scheduled for March 9-12, as the third and last leg of its first Asia swing.

The tournament was part the LPGA Tour schedule between 2014 and 2018, Gaby LopezMexico was the most recent winner. It was not on LPGA schedule for 2019 or 2022. It was in 2020, 2021, but both times were canceled by the pandemic.

The HSBC Champions in Shanghai was last played in 2019. The Volvo China Open, part of the European tour, was last played in 2022. It was canceled. This year, it does not have a China event.
