Mastercard has stopped its endorsement deals with LIV members golf tour members Ian PoulterAnd Graeme McDowellAccording to ESPN,
Poulter has held a contract since 2009 with the company, while McDowell has one since 2011. However, Mastercard has halted their contracts due to their association in the controversial tour and suspension of the PGA Tour.
We have paused our relationship with Ian & Graeme because we recognize the uncertainties surrounding their standing with PGA Tour, said Seth Eisen, Mastercard vice president for communications.
Mastercard did not comment on the length of the pause as reported by Sports Business Journal. It is not clear if it will be permanent. However, Mastercard is the latest company to end all endorsement deals with players who have signed up for the Saudi-backed tour.
Rocket Mortgage recently announced that it was ending its relationship with Bryson deChambeauRBC severed ties with Dustin JohnsonMcDowell, and Phil MickelsonAmstel, KPMG, and WorkDay lost sponsorships
While some companies have taken a firm stance on the tours progress, others have not commented or made any decisions about their sponsorship of current players. Michelob Ultra, Nike and others have kept their contracts with LIV Player Brooks Koepka.
Poulter was also one the three players who filed a suit to challenge their suspension at the Genesis Scottish Open. The three golfers The stay was a successPoulter and Poulter participated in The Open, but they didnt make it to the final.
