Rickie Fowler leads Zozo, eyes first PGA Tour win since 2019


INZAI CITY (Japan) Rickie FowlerTo take a one shot lead in the third round of Zozo Championship, he shot a 4-under 66. He was thus in position to win his first PGA Tour title in 3 1/2 year.

Fowler was last victorious at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in 2019.

Keegan BradleyA 66 was also taken and was a shot back at Accordia Narashino Country club, just outside Tokyo. American fellow Andrew PutnamA further shot was taken after a 68 at the only PGA Tour Japan event.

Ten more players were within three to five shots of the lead in a tightly bunched field.

Fowler stated, Its been awhile since I was in this situation. Obviously (I) can recall being in those situations before. It wont be easy tomorrow, however.

Fowler was close in many majors, including a second place finish at the 2018 Masters.

Fowler stated, Yeah, definitely had some difficult times the past few years, but it was always there, It was always a fine-tuned line — a shot here or there. It was nice to see it start to build momentum, confidence and get the ball rolling in the right direction.

After two days of rain Saturdays round was dry, with Sundays expected to be the same.

Defending champion and favorite local. Hideki YamayamaHe shot a 66 for his highest round of the week. He was just 10 shots behind the leader.
