Woods announced Tuesday 17 players to the 20-man roster. All except four are from the top-21 in the world ranking.
The No. 1 player in the world — Woods — is yet to be announced. Woods, who is ranked 1,195 in the world, will play at Albany. Woods reserved three spots for tournament exemptions, so it is expected that he will play at Albany for the first-time since 2019. He has played three majors this season, including the British Open in July.
The tournament must be eligible for world ranking points if the exemptions are in the top 50 of the world ranking.
Woods did not participate in the Hero World Challenge this year due to his February 2021 accident that severely injured his right leg. But he caused a stir by being seen hitting full shots on the back range. He was seen again two weeks later at PNC Championship with Charlie, his son.
The newcomers to the holiday event include Will Zalatoris, Cameron Young, Sungjae Im, Max HomaA 20-year old Tom Kim. The 21 top players who did not choose to play were Rory McIlroy, Patrick CantlayAnd Shane Lowry.

The tournament runs from Dec. 1 – 4. Ten of the 12 Americans on the Presidents Cup team are currently represented in the fields. Cantlay isnt going, and the other is.
