Round Robin Golf Tournament Format

Round Robin is not only for golf, but for all sports. This tournament sees each player play in turn against all the other teams.

It’s a way to schedule events in all types of sports to play against each other and common in NBA, MLB, and NBA. It’s also the exact opposite of an elimination tournament where you’re typically eliminated from the event with a loss.

Golf is not usually played by two players teams, so this changes the game. What is a round robin in golf?

Round-robin tournaments are also known as sixes or Hollywood, COD, and other terms. The goal is to play all other players or teams.

The winner is the one with the lowest net score. However, there are many variations.

I remember playing this format with my brother and his two brothers many times growing up. If you’re player A, you will play with B for the first six holes, C for the second six, and D for the final six holes. You’ll compete for a set number of points during those six holes and the person with the most points wins.

It’s also common to see this type of tournament in a member-guest. This is typically a flight of six teams that play five nine-hole matches. You get to play 27 holes in a single day. Each team will play another in order to win a specific number of points. This is usually done in a match play format.

From the first hole to the last shot, it’s exciting for golfers to take on one opponent after another. This format can be played in a pod system. Well discuss this in the next section.

PGA Tour (Dell Match Play).

Round Robin tournaments exist on the PGA Tour. Although the best players worldwide play 72-hole strokeplay events, there are several other formats every year. The Dell Match Play is a good example.

While each golfer doesn’t play every other player (as that would take a month), they’re broken into team play pods where each pod plays round robin format. In essence, each player plays one match against the other within each pod.

The winners are then determined and move on to the next stage, which is a bracket tournament where the winner will be determined. It’s one of the most fun tournaments to watch and highly suggest you check it out to see who can get the victory!

Double Round Robin

Now that you know about a single round robin event, let’s get into how a double round robin works. According to Golf Software“In a double round robin, each player or team plays all other players or teams twice. A single round robin will take 9 events if you have 10 players/teams. When you have 20 teams or players, you will need 19 events to complete a single round robin.”

As you can see, this can lead to a lot of scheduling problems if you work at a golf course. This is why we recommend a software or app that makes it easier to schedule.

Golf Software

These software programs can help you plan these otherwise difficult events.

  • Golf Software: The name is very catchy. It’s a great app to schedule these tournaments, leagues, and handicapping.
  • Beezer GolfThis app can be accessed to access your scores and 25 group or side games.
  • Golf Genius: This is one of the most comprehensive scoring systems that can be used to organize large events. It’s not cheap but it’s worth it.

We think that golf is one of the greatest sports ever because of all the different formats you can play it. You can play on thousands upon thousands of courses around the globe, and also in different formats. These are our top picks to find out more about this great game.

Scramble

A scramble format is one of the best ways for friends to play golf together. Each player tees off, then you choose the best shot and take the next shot. This continues until the end of the hole, so everyone gets a shot.

You will need to play low if you are playing this format with four players. Click here to find out more about scramble-golf tournaments.

Match Play

Whether you’re playing with a buddy or three, match play is a great way to mix up scoring. Match play is only one shot away from winning or losing the hole. If you score an 8 and your friend scores a 5, you will only lose one shot.

This format has a ton of strategies involved and why it’s so much fun to watch the Ryder and Presidents Cup. Click here to find out more about match play.

Stableford

The goal of golf is usually to get the lowest score at end of round. In a stableford tournament, however, the goal is not to get the lowest score but to get the most points. Each score (birdie par, bogey and so on) is counted. Each player receives a predetermined number of points Before teeing off.

This format encourages everyone play more aggressively because pars, birdies and eagles are rewarded. Click here for more information about the Stableford golf tournament.
