SOTOGRANDE (Spain) — Jessica Korda shot three eagles in a 11-under 61, which was a Ladies European Tour record. It gave her a five-shot lead following the first round in the Aramco Team Series at Sotogrande.
Korda also added six more birdies to go along with one bogey at the par-4 eight to break La Reserva Clubs course record and equal the Ladies European Tours lowest round relative to par.
After seven holes, the American was 7 under. This was after eagles at par-5s second and sixth holes. She added her third par-5 eagle on 16th.
Korda stated that he has never made three eagles during a round. For the past month and a half, I dont think Ive been converting putts. The floodgates opened today and I hope they can continue tomorrow. Thats the beauty and wonder of golf.
After both shot a 66, Manon De Roey from Belgium and Pia Babnik from Slovenia tied for second. Jessicas sister Nelly Korda was one shot back in a tie to fourth, despite a double-bogey 7 on sixth.
The event will feature a 54-hole individual event and a 36-hole team event.
The quartet, which includes Jessica Korda (terezamelecka), Noora Komulainen (amateur Malcolm Borwick), and Tereza Meecka (amateur), hold a one-shot advantage in the team event.
