Jon Rahm leads in Dubai; Rory McIlroy, Matt Fitzpatrick in Road to Dubai title mix

Rory McIlroyAfter his 7-under 65 on Saturday, he was three shots behind the leader heading into the final round of the season-ending DP World Tour Championship.

Jon RahmHe holds a one stroke lead after a bogeyless 65 placed the Spaniard at 15 under 201 overall at Jumeirah golf Estates as he tries to win the event for the third time.

McIlroy, the top-ranked player, will face off against U.S. Open champion Matt FitzpatrickSunday will be the Harry Vardon Trophy.

McIlroy stated, If I can go out there tomorrow to shoot a good score to get the job done it would be a really nice end to whats been an amazing year.

Rahm trails Fitzpatrick by one shot after a 70 which included two bogeys at the Earth Courses front nine. Rahm is a twice-winner of this course.

If McIlroy finishes below McIlroys second place, the Englishman can win what would be his first Race To Dubai title. Fitzpatrick could also finish second if McIlroy finishes less than seventh.

Fitzpatrick said that it would mean the whole world , despite a slow start on Saturday. Fitzpatrick said, Im going need a lot more things going my way. Ive given my self a chance going into tomorrow, and thats all one can do from the beginning of the week.

Alex NorenMcIlroy is tied for fourth at (68). Tyrrell Hatton (72).

McIlroy made bogey, eagle-bogey the first three holes and then had seven birdies the rest.

He said, Overall, I just hit it in fairway a bit more today which really made a difference. I was able take control of my approach shots and hit them close to make some easy birdies. (I) will do more of the exact same tomorrow.

McIlroy will be trying to win the FedExCup as well as Race to Dubai simultaneously for the first-time. He has won each event three times. McIlroy won the Race to Dubai title in 2015. He also won it in 2012, 2014, and 2015.

Rahm was happy with the third round.

He said, I don’t think I could shoot any lower today. [I]While I was not my best off of the tee, I was able make some birdies in some less-than-stellar situations. I was able to play the par 5s at 3-under par even though I didnt hit any fairways. Ive had some good Sundays here, so hopefully I can fix my mistakes off the tee to have a smooth round.
