If McIlroy finishes below McIlroys second place, the Englishman can win what would be his first Race To Dubai title. Fitzpatrick could also finish second if McIlroy finishes less than seventh.
Fitzpatrick said that it would mean the whole world , despite a slow start on Saturday. Fitzpatrick said, Im going need a lot more things going my way. Ive given my self a chance going into tomorrow, and thats all one can do from the beginning of the week.
McIlroy made bogey, eagle-bogey the first three holes and then had seven birdies the rest.
He said, Overall, I just hit it in fairway a bit more today which really made a difference. I was able take control of my approach shots and hit them close to make some easy birdies. (I) will do more of the exact same tomorrow.
McIlroy will be trying to win the FedExCup as well as Race to Dubai simultaneously for the first-time. He has won each event three times. McIlroy won the Race to Dubai title in 2015. He also won it in 2012, 2014, and 2015.
Rahm was happy with the third round.
He said, I don’t think I could shoot any lower today. [I]While I was not my best off of the tee, I was able make some birdies in some less-than-stellar situations. I was able to play the par 5s at 3-under par even though I didnt hit any fairways. Ive had some good Sundays here, so hopefully I can fix my mistakes off the tee to have a smooth round.
