Nicolas Colsaerts named vice captain for Europe in Ryder Cup

LONDON — European Ryder Cup captain Luke DonaldNominated Nicolas ColsaertsAs his third vice-captain, he will be attending the event in Rome next year.

The 40-year-old Belgian golfer joins Thomas Bjorn, a Dane. Edoardo MolinariItaly vice-captains for the European team

Colsaerts won the 2012 Ryder Cup for Europe and has three tournament wins on the European tour.

Colsaerts released a statement saying that my first reaction when Luke asked my was sheer joy. Every time I hear the word Ryder Cup, it brings me back to the edition that I played in, and how proud I was to be wearing the European colors and to be part of such an incredible event.

Both Molinari and Bjorn were appointed by Henrik StensonAfter joining the Saudi-backed LIV Golf breakaway, he was removed from the position of Europes captain.

Donald retained both Bjorn, and Molinari after replacing Stenson. He stated that Colsaerts was his third vice captain and that he had been thinking about it for a few months now.

Donald stated, I played in the team in 2012 with him and you could see how much it meant for him. He knows what it means, what it means to represent Europes crest and what it is to be part of the Ryder Cup setup. He literally had goosebumps after I asked him.

The 2023 Ryder Cup will take place at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome, Sept. 26-Oct. 1.
