Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald unsure about availability of LIV players

Luke Donald, Team Europes Ryder Cup Captain, has stated that he is not certain if LIV Golf players are allowed to participate in next years event. However, he said that he is committed selecting the strongest 12-man team to compete with the United States.

LIV Golf events are being suspended by the PGA Tour. They have been sanctioned by Europe’s DP World Tour.

Donald stated that Part of being a captain involves creating a strong 12-man united team, and this is something Ill be working to do over the next 14-months.

Hopefully we will have some clarity on this situation and we can begin making some decisions. There is a legal problem. But I don’t think that this situation will be resolved anytime soon.

Saudi Arabias Public Investment Fund is funding the $255 million LIV series. This has shaken up the sport, with the likes Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson among its marquee names.

Former world No. 1 Donald stated that he didnt intend to follow the same route.

Donald stated that he had signed a contract and he intends to see it through. I give you my word that I will be there for the next 14 month. Im excited about the opportunity, I really am.

The Ryder Cup will take place in Rome between Sept. 29 and Oct. 1, next year. The two-time major winner Zach Johnson will lead the holders of the U.S.
