ANTWERP, Belgium — Swedish golfer Simon ForsströmHold off Countryman Jens DantorpOn Sunday, the European Tour’s Soudal Open was won by a single stroke.
The 34-year-old Forsström was one stroke ahead of Belgium’s Thomas DetryDantorp’s late surge from third place proved to be the main threat.
Forsström did just enough with some late birdies for a 2-under 69 to finish 17-under overall as Dantorp posted 67 to end on 16 under.
“I’m very happy, I don’t have any words,” Forsström said. “I thought that I would give myself some chances and hopefully, some would fall.”
Dane Thorbjørn Olesen(66) finished in third place, two shots behind Dantorp.
Forsstrom, ranked No. 429-ranked Forsström came through qualifying school at the end of last year to gain his tour card.
“It’s everything to me that I finally made it.” He said, “I was happy to be out here after Q School.” “I am super happy about the win, and I have proven to myself that i can win here.”
Detry (73) slipped back to share seventh place.
