Justin Rose withdraws from The Open with back injury

Former world No. Justin Rose, former world number one, has withdrawn before his opening round at St Andrews.

The British golfer was supposed to play alongside Tommy Fleetwood and Francesco Molinari in the Ryder Cup, but he pulled out on Thursday after suffering a back injury while warming up.

Japans Rikuya Hosseino has taken over, with Aaron Rai following on the reserve list.
