Tiger Woods to team with Rory McIlroy in The Match on Dec. 10

Its official: Tiger WoodsThe seventh edition of The Match will be held Dec. 10, and is back at the golf course.

The 15-time major champion team up with world No. 1 golfer Rory McIlroyFor Justin Thomas Jordan SpiethPelican Golf Club in Belleair Florida, hosts a 12-hole competition.

The match starts at 6 p.m. ET, will benefit Hurricane Ian relief efforts along the Gulf Coast. A news release stated that previous editions raised $33 million for charities and provided 27,000,000 meals through Feeding America.

This will be Woods third appearance on The Match. To defeat the match, he teamed up to Peyton Manning, an NFL quarterback. Phil MickelsonBy 1 stroke, Tom Brady and Woods lost to Mickelson in the May 2020 Match event. Woods lost to Mickelson 1 up in 22 holes during the original head-tohead Match event held in November 2018. McIlroy will be making his debut, as will Spieth, Thomas and Thomas.

Woods, 46 years old, hasn’t participated in a tournament since he missed out on the cut at St. Andrews 150th Open Championship in July. Woods is still recovering from severe injuries sustained in a car accident in Los Angeles in February 2021. He finished 47th at The Masters in April, his first start after the wreck. He then withdrew three rounds of Mays PGA Championship.

Woods has not yet indicated whether he will participate in the Hero World Challenge in The Bahamas in December. His foundation benefits from the event. Woods will likely compete in PNC Championship, which is scheduled for December 15-18 in Orlando with his son Charlie. However he hasn’t yet confirmed that he will be playing in the event.
